5 Reasons We're Excited For Starry Nites Festival

5 Reasons We're Excited For Starry Nites Festival

1. Immersive Visuals by Obscura Digital

If you don’t know about this company and the work that they have done, you need to check them out as soon as humanly possible. Obscura Digital is a production facility focused on developing high-impact, immersive, and giant-scale display systems and content. They are best known for their groundbreaking, large-scale projection mapping events on St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican, as well as projections on the Empire State Building. Others might recognize them for their previous music festival art pieces at Coachella, as well as their work on the new AT&T Stadium (Dallas Cowboys).

We’ve been informed that their live performances at Starry Nites Festival will include projections of fire on the surrounding oak trees and endangered species onto the backdrop of the beautiful Santa Barbara mountainside.

2. Live Oak Campground

You couldn’t ask for a more scenic location to hold a music festival. Right outside of downtown Santa Barbara, between the San Raphael and Santa Ynez Mountains lies the 42 acre ranch that will host this event. The festival creators believe that music in harmony with nature creates the best festival experience. We couldn't agree more.

The campsite offers a wide range of options including RV camping, car camping and good ole fashion tent camping. There will also be hot showers and food available. Starry Nites has made things extremely convenient with number of different group packages, upgrades and rentals.

3. 60’s Psych Rock and 90’s Nostalgia

This festival can be described as a breath of fresh air. Not only because of the fact that you’ll literally be breathing fresh air in the Santa Barbara Mountains, but also because the lineup is refreshingly unique. While many other festivals boast essentially the same cluster of popular artists as each other, Starry Nites clearly has a different vibe. If you think you don’t know Alan Parsons, you probably actually do. He is credited as a producer on some of the greatest albums of all time, including The Beatles’ Abbey Road and Let It Be, as well as Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. Other psych rock legends such as Strawberry Alarm Clock will join an array of current rock purist like Black Mountain and The Kills.

We can’t help but feel nostalgia for artists like The Dandy Warhols, Cat Power and She Wants Revenge. These cult favorites will also be joined by a number of up-and-coming musical acts like Elvis Depressedly, Cellar Doors and KOLARS.

4. Food + Beer + Wine

What goes great with live music? You know the answer… it’ll be here. Campers are allowed to bring food and libations into the campground, but outside food and alcohol will not be allowed in the event area. FEAR NOT! There will be beer and wine provided by brewmasters and vineyards near and far, as well as plenty of delicious sustenance options.

5. Student Discount

Always appreciated. In addition to already fairly reasonable costs, Starry Nites offers students with a valid ID from Santa Barbara a 10% discount off weekend passes and FREE camping. Free is always good, but especially to college kids. Tickets are available directly from UCSB and SBCC campuses. Fun fact, they also offer a discount to any Santa Barbara locals as well.
